Writer-directors Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s first-class low-budget Seventies-style horror movie stars Aaron Poole as cop Daniel Carter, who starts it off promisingly by discovering a blood-soaked man limping down a deserted road at night.
Carter then rushes the man to a nearby understaffed hospital, whose patients and night-shift staff start to turn ravenously insane, as mysterious hooded and cloaked figures surround the building. Carter leads the hospital survivors into the depths of the building, but then things just go from very bad to very much worse.
There is everything to relish about this retro John Carpenter-style creature feature, but I would pick out the intense direction, the creepy creature designs, the eerie production design, Poole’s performance and Kenneth Welsh’s performance as Dr Richard Powell as five of them.
Also in the cast are Ellen Wong, Kathleen Munroe, Amy Groening, Stephanie Belding and Evan Stern.
