Director Miguel Iglesias’s 1975 Spanish shocker is still banned in the UK since 1983 after its inclusion on the Department of Public Prosecutions’ list of 72 video nasties. It has a Spanish 18 and US R certificate.
It is Paul Naschy’s seventh appearance as El Hombre Lobo, the renowned adventurer Waldemar Daninsky, who joins an expedition to find the Yeti in the Himalayas. He is captured by two cannibalistic demon nymphets guarding a Buddhist temple and becomes their werewolf sex-slave. After they free the werewolf to roam the mountainside, he encounters a sadistic bandit.
It runs 94 minutes but a later cut version runs 87 minutes with the film’s graphic torture scene edited out. It was released in the US in cinemas and on video dubbed into English as Night of the Howling Beast. It was released a PAL version called The Werewolf and the Yeti.
Gil Vidal plays a character named Larry Talbot, which is Lon Chaney Jr’s character in The Wolf Man (1941).
Also in the cast are Mercedes Molina (billed as Grace Mills), Silvia Solar, Luis Induni, [Josep] Castillo Escalona, Ventura Oller, Veronica Miriel and Juan Velilla.
