Co-writer/ director Nick Park’s amusing, clever, and appealing 1993 Oscar-winning animated short film is the second of his four Academy Award winners, following Creature Comforts (1989).
Peter Sallis again voices Wallace, who is used by his new lodger, a criminal penguin who pushes Gromit out of his room and home, in a robbery involving remote-controlled mechanical trousers.
It won the 1994 Oscar for Best Short Film, Animated and the 1994 BAFTA Film Award for Best Animated Film. It also follows the Oscar-nominated A Grand Day Out (1989).
It is co-written by Bob Baker.
It is followed as Best Short Film, Animated by A Close Shave (1995) and by The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) as the Best Animated Feature Film of the Year. A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008) was Oscar-nominated as Best Short Film, Animated.
