Writer-director David Kane’s 1999 Brit romantic comedy is set in Camden, north London, where 30somethings look for love and happiness in a well-played, nicely cast and generally bright and amusing movie.
Douglas Henshall as marriage troubled Danny, Kathy Burke as pub singer Mary and Ian Hart as desperately loveless Liam are outstanding among the talented ensemble cast. The script could be wittier and tighter, but compared with most Brit comedies of the period, this is surprisingly likeable and enjoyable.
Catherine McCormack, Jennifer Ehle, Dougray Scott, Emily Woof, Angela Douglas, Annabelle Apsion, Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit movies, making his debut as Smug Man at Party), Matt Bardock and Eddie Marsan also appear.
