Director Coline Serreau’s 1985 Three Men and a Cradle [Trois Hommes et un Couffin] stars Roland Giraud, Michel Boujenah and André Dussollier as three high-living bachelors (Pierre, Michel, Jacques) who become the guardians of a baby girl whom one of them, Jacques (Dussollier), has apparently fathered after briefly making love with the mother.
The French comedy that spun off the hit American remake Three Men and a Baby (1987) is sweet-natured, well acted and jolly good fun. Trois Hommes et un Couffin was a big local blockbuster hit in France for perceptive writer-director Serreau, whose film garnered three César awards: Best Film, Best Supporting Actor (Michel Boujenah) and Best Screenplay (Coline Serreau).
Also in the cast are Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Marthe Villalonga, and Dominique Lavanant.
Three Men and a Cradle [3 Hommes et un Couffin] was an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.
