Gianna Maria Canale stars in director Luigi Capuano’s tolerably entertaining 1962 dubbed Italian feminist swashbuckling adventure movie Tiger of the Seven Seas [La Tigre dei Sette Mare] as Consuelo, a pirate captain’s daughter who inherits the command of the pirate ship Santa Maria (‘why shouldn’t a woman become captain?’)
After her lover William Scott (Anthony Steel) is unjustly accused of killing her skipper father Tigre [The Tiger] (Carlo Ninchi) and sentenced to death, Consuelo goes in search of the real killer, rescuing Scott (Steel) along the way.
Tiger of the Seven Seas [La Tigre dei Sette Mare] tells a standard high-seas tale, but the action-packed movie is enlivened with some well staged rescues and exciting duels. Canale is an impressive presence and Fifties British star Steel gives a robust performance as the innocent lover.
Also in the cast are Maria Grazia Spina [Grazia Maria Spina], Ernesto Calindri, Carlo Ninchi, John Kitzmiller, Andrea Aureli and Carlo Pisacane.
Tiger of the Seven Seas [La Tigre dei Sette Mare] is directed by Luigi Capuano, runs 90 minutes, is made by Liber Film and Euro International Film, is released by Embassy, is written by Arpad DeRiso, Ottavio Poggi and Luigi Capuano, from a story by Nino Battiferri, is shot in Eastmancolor by Alvaro Mancori, is produced by Ottavio Pieggi and is scored by Carlo Rustichelli.
Location filming took place on Lake Garda, Italy.
