This scary, in-your-face 2000 movie tells the tale of a group of American army recruits undergoing horrific infantry training, in a gruelling test of their physical and mental stamina, at Fort Polk, Louisiana – the final refuge before setting off to confront the horrors of battle in Vietnam for so many GIs in 1971.
Director Joel Schumacher points his handheld cameras at the action for an astonishing film of raw, intense power, with Brilliant acting by a cast of unknowns and Colin Farrell a standout in his big Hollywood break, as the rebel soldier.
Also in the cast are Matthew Davis, Clifton Collins, Tom Guiry, Shea Whigham, Russell Richardson, Nick Searcy, Afemo Omilami, James MacDonald, Keith Ewell and Matt Gerald.
It is written by Ross Klavan and Michael McGruther, and photographed by Matthew Libatique. There’s plenty of talent around.
Farrell and Schumacher reunited for Phone Booth in 2003.
