Director Frank Borzage’s 1944 Paramount Pictures black and white drama film Till We Meet Again stars Ray Milland, Barbara Britton and Walter Slezak.
Standard, only partly effective World War Two action adventure, with American flyer John (Milland) stranded behind Nazi lines after his plane has been shot down. A French novice nun called Sister Clothilde (Britton) agrees to help him escape to England by pretending to be his wife.
A low-flying script downs this well-meaning wartime romantic drama, kept in flight with genial performances, especially from the reliable Milland.
Till We Meet Again is a handsome looking, well-crafted film, well shot by German-born cinematographer Theodor Sparkuhl.
Lenore J Coffee’s screenplay is based on Alfred Maury’s play.
Also in the cast are Walter Slezak as Vitrey, Lucile Watson as Mother Superior, Konstantin Shayne as Major Krupp, Mona Freeman as Elise, Vladimir Sokoloff as Cabeau, Marguerite D’Alvarez, William Edmunds as Henri Maret, George Davis, Peter Helmers, John Wengraf, Mira McKinney, Tala Birrell, Philip Van Zandt, Georges Renavent, George Sorel, and Marcelle Corday.
It was released by Paramount Pictures on 30 August 1944
Dutch-American actor Philip Van Zandt (October 4, 1904 – February 15, 1958) ironically plays a German Lieutenant. He made more than 220 film and TV appearances between 1939 and 1958. He become depressed with his flagging career, spent his income on compulsive gambling, and committed suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills.
