Game for anything that will raise a laugh, Jerry O’Connell is very amusing in writer-director Gregory Poirier’s wild and wacky 2001 comedy. While artificial and not specially out of the ordinary, it nevertheless remains generally amiable and amusing.
Vowing never to get married, six buddies contribute $1,000 each into a mutual fund with the agreement that the last single man standing gets the kitty. Seven years later, there are only two bachelors left – Michael (O’Connell) and Kyle (Gary Busey) and the kitty has grown to half a million dollars.
Desperate to pay off a huge gambling debt, Michael plots to get Kyle married by tracking down super-sexy Natalie (Shannon Elizabeth), the lost love of Kyle’s life. Through creative invention involving a dominatrix librarian, a Vegas mobster and a trip to the sperm bank, Michael and Natalie plot to trick Kyle into unholy matrimony and split the cash.
But, when Michael finds himself falling for Natalie, the dash for cash takes a wild turn in this likeably daft and raucous comedy. With a script in which anything goes, it’s pretty gross and outrageous, and there’s an onslaught 0f mucky, naughty humour along the lines of Not Another Teen Movie and There’s Something About Mary. But O’Connell’s good nature and cheesy grin keep it sweet and pleasing. R for strong sexual content, including dialogue, and for language.
Stay watching for several funny out-takes at the end of the film.
