Robert Downey Jr, Ralph Macchio and Eric Idle star in the would-be controversial, but actually quite dodgy 1990 comedy Too Much Sun, co-written and directed by Robert Downey Sr.

After the death of multi-millionaire Old Man Rivers (Howard Duff, in his final film), his unconventional offspring embark on a frantic battle to claim his inheritance, hindered by con-men, twists of fate and corrupt priests. His will says his gay son and lesbian daughter will only inherit if at least one of them produces him a grandchild in a year after his death.

Feeble rather than funny, Too Much Sun tries too hard to extract humour from its workmanlike script and even the normally reliable Idle struggles with his camp, stereotyped role as Sonny.

Downey Jnr composed and performs the title song.

Also in the cast are Andrea Martin, Leo Rossi, Howard Duff, Allan Arbus, Laura Ernst, Jim Haynie, Jennifer Rubin, Lara Harris, James Hong, John Ide, Marin Kanter, Jon Korkes, Carla Sherman, Heidi Swedberg and Christopher Mankiewicz.

Laura Ernst (who plays Susan) and Al Schwartz also wrote the screenplay.
