Angela Bettis and Brent Roam star as a married couple who move into an LA hotel apartment block, where the young women are being terrorised by a maniac in a balaclava-type ski-mask.
There are lots of nasty shocks and splattery gore in this grungy and cheap but slick, acceptable and often scary slasher chiller from the back-on-form horror maestro Tobe Hooper.
It is all very Seventies, but then that is the point. It is a remake of a seminal 1978 slasher horror chiller The Toolbox Murders, and this retro style of horror is back in vogue in 2004.
Also in the cast are Marco Rodríguez, Juliet Landau, Christopher [Chris] Doyle, Rance Howard, Adam Gierasch, Sara Downing, Alan Polonsky, Eric Ladin, Sheri Moon [Zombie], Charlie Paulson, Jamison Reeves and Stephanie Silverman.
It is written by Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch, shot by Steve Yedlin, produced by Tony DiDio, Terry Potter and Jackie Quella, scored by Joseph Conlan, and designed by Yuda Acco.
RIP Tobe Hooper (25 January 1943 – 26 August 2017).
