Writer-director Edouard Nammour’s 2004 British family film Tooth features Yasmin Paige as the young tooth fairy who brings magic and riches back into the lives of everyone around her.
This is a fairly toothsome, gleaming children’s fantasy comedy, with Nammour’s script’s admittedly plentiful empty corners packed out by overacting Brit luvvies – Harry Enfield (as Plug), Richard E Grant (Jarvis Jarvis), Stephen Fry (Pedro), Phyllida Law (Mrs Claus) and Vinnie Jones (The Extractor).
Giving good performances, Rory Copus and Maisie Preston are the kids, while Sally Phillips and Tim Dutton play mum and dad. This pretty sweet outing is not one you would give your eye teeth for, maybe, but it is still a pretty polished set.
Jim Broadbent provides the voice of the Rabbit, Paige’s boss. Anna Wing plays Ancient Fairy, Jerry Hall plays Bon Bon, and Roy Holder plays Garbage Man.
The original screenplay is by Edouard Nammour, with additional material by Piers Fletcher, Simon Franks and Zygi Kamasa.
It was shot at Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, England, on a fairly large budget of $12,000,000, and grossed only $2,351,592. So Tooth ache, then.
