Writer-director Pat Verducci’s 1995 low budget film is a savage and deeply unpleasant thriller on a very familiar theme.
Alicia Silverstone stars as bright Catholic school teenager Mary Giordano, a high school senior who is hooked on the grisly tales in her True Crime magazines. Mary’s thirst to solve crimes leads her to turn detective, with the help of an ambitious young police cadet Tony Campbell (Dillon), when her classmate Kathleen Donlevy (played by Alissa Dowdy) is brutally murdered.
Mary finds links to other unsolved murders, all teenage girls and the crimes committed along the route of a travelling carnival. But soon she realises the killer knows who she is and he fights back, pursuing her…
Also in the cast are Bill Nunn as Detective Jerry Guinn, Michael Bowen, Ann Devaney, Joshua Schaefer, Marla Sokoloff, Tara Subkoff and Jennifer Savidge.
It is strong stuff, rated R for psychopathic violence, strong sexuality and strong language.
