Despite the excellent cast and posh director, everyone has lost their touch in director Michael Apted’s off-key action thriller, with a topical terrorism theme.
Working hard as ever, Noomi Rapace does her level best and is okay in the star role as a CIA interrogator pulled into a scam that could inflict a biological attack on London.
Of the other star quartet, Orlando Bloom gives quite the worst performance as a cockney tough guy, but then Michael Douglas, Toni Collette, and John Malkovich are not really that much better.
The title is as mystifying as the film’s failure. What went wrong? Peter O’Brien’s struggling, unconvincing screenplay is one of the things that has gone wrong, so it is a shock that it is in the 2008 Blacklist of most liked unmade scripts of the year. On the plus side, the plot is quite interesting and it is a very good production, using London well, with slick photography, and the well-wrapped film looks the expensive treat it is supposed to be.
