An untrained Rugby Sevens team, boosted by the alluring Hazel Scott (played by Samantha Janus, aka Samantha Womack), have to get in shape to try to defeat the The Cobblers Arms reigning champions and win at the Amateur Rugby League final, in writer-director John Godber’s pretty ordinary 1998 Brit com Up ‘n’ Under.
Gary Olsen plays Arthur Hoyle, who bets the boss of The Cobblers Arms that he can train a team of deadbeats to defeat the Cobblers crew in the Rugby Sevens tournament.
Based on John Godber’s popular stage play, the film’s few amusing jokes are spread thinly over the familiar idea and clumsy old-style handling.
The cast are Gary Olsen, Neil Morrissey, Samantha Janus, Tony Slattery, Griff Rhys Jones, Richard Ridings, Ralph Brown, Adrian Hood, David MacCreedy, Jane Clifford-Thornton, Susan Tully, John Thomson, and Nicholas Lane.
