Director Simon Moore’s appealing 1997 British comedy drama with songs Up on the Roof, based on the award-winning stage play by Simon Moore and Jane Prowse, who also write the screenplay, is a tuneful, funny, sweet and moving look at the lives of five 1979 college friends who sing a cappella versions of popular songs of the 60s and 70s.

Up on the Roof is very pleasingly performed and nicely done.

Sadly, it was Rank’s last film before being taken over by Carlton.

The main cast are Billy Carter, Clare Cathcart [Claire Cathcart], Adrian Lester, Amy Robbins, Daniel Ryan, Lavinia Bertram, Mary Healey and Robin Herford.
