Director John Ottman’s 2000 horror sequel to the 1998 hit Urban Legend is surprisingly smart.
In the screenplay by Paul Harris Boardman and Scott Derrickson, this time a student film-maker, Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Morrison), is having grave difficulty finishing her celluloid thesis at uni when the cast and crew are fatally picked off in a series of fatal accidents according to local myths.
It is the mixture as before, with a bit of Scream thrown in too. But it’s pacy and quite sharply made. And, er, yes, it’s well cut too.
It also stars Matthew Davis, Loretta Devine, Hart Bochner, Joey Lawrence, Aaron Mount, Eva Mendes, Anthony Anderson and Marco Hofschneider as Simon.
Also in the cast are Jessica Cauffiel, Michael Bacall, Jacinda Barrett, Derek Aasland, Peter Millard, Chas Lawther, Chuck Campbell, Yani Gellman, Jeanette Sousa and Rory Feore.
It was shot cheaply for just $14,000,000 in only 47 days, 10 days fewer than Urban Legend, resulting in a profit after a US gross of $21,468,000.
It is rated R for violence/gore, strong language and some sexuality.
