‘Seduction. Romance. Murder. The things one does for love.’ Director Robert Bierman’s 1988 black comedy horror movie is a brilliant, scarily decadent vampire story with a truly essential Nicolas Cage performance, as a creepy literary agent/ publishing executive who believes that he has been bitten by neck-biter and is a vampire.
Written by Joseph Minion, this is a gem from the good old, pre-romantic and action hero days when Cage played weird and did it so well.
It is quite extreme stuff, so it will not be to everyone’s taste, but it is guaranteed to enthrall vampire-movie fans.
It also stars Maria Conchita Alonso, Jennifer Beals, Elizabeth Ashley and Kasi Lemmons.
Also in the cast are Bob [Robert] Lujan, Jessica Lundy, Johnny Walker, Boris Leskin, Michael Knowles, John Michael Higgins, Jodie Markell, Marc Coppola and David Hyde Pierce (Theater Guy).
New York locations checked off the film’s closing credits include The Tunnel, the Mondo Cane Blues Bar, the Man Ray Restaurant, Magickal Childe, the Apple Core Theater, the Circle-in-the-Square Theater and the New Museum of Contemporary Art.
