Jon Bon Jovi stars as freelance vampire hunter and slayer Derek Bliss, who vows to take revenge on the evil undead renegade responsible for slaying a group of monks and links up with a priest, Father Rodrigo (Cristiân de la Fuente), in Mexico to tackle the walking dead.
Writer-director Tommy Lee Wallace’s 2002 horror action thriller is a pretty intense and scary sequel to John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998). Bon Jovi and his co-star Natasha Gregson Wagner (as Zoe) are ideal and Wallace keeps all the blood-thirsty entertainment fast moving and tense throughout.
Produced by John Carpenter, it isn’t a direct sequel but takes place in the same universe as his first film. The vampires are again after the same ancient Catholic crucifix that would allow them to endure sunlight as before.
Arly Jover, Darius McCrary and Diego Luna also star. Director Wallace has a cameo as Scared Guy.
Another sequel followed: Vampires: The Turning in 2005.
