Director Philippe Vallois’s splendid, heart-rending 1979 French gay movie We Were One Man [Nous Etions Un Seule Homme] is really subtle and special.
In the autumn of 1943, in World War Two, Guy Rouveron (Serge Avedikian), a young French primitive peasant farmer, finds a wounded German soldier, Rolf (Piotr Stanislas), in the woods and brings him back to health.
When the soldier recovers, a deep bonded friendship begins between the two men from enemy countries, upsetting the Frenchman’s girlfriend Jenine (Catherine Albin) and her father (Lucien Guérin).
