Director Hank McCune’s Wetbacks (1956) stars Lloyd Bridges, Nancy Gates and Barton MacLane, but the really good news is that it is written by Edward D Wood Jr (hiding his light under a bushel as Pete LaRoche).
Bridges stars as ex-Coast Guardsman Jim Benson, who takes a gamble on running a fishing charter boat, in Banner Productions’s ultra low-budget version of Ernest Hemingway’s short story novel To Have and Have Not, following To Have and Have Not (1944), The Breaking Point (1950) and preceding The Gun Runners (1958). At least the budget stretched to filming in Eastmancolor.
