Director Jon Turteltaub’s 1996 romance stars Sandra Bullock as a pert, feisty train-ticket collector who rescues hunky commuter Peter Gallagher from being crushed by a train in the subway, then pretends she’s his fiancée and inherits his entire family while he’s in a coma.
Soon Sandra turns her doe eyes from Gallagher to his brother Bill Pullman in a tasty, old-style, feel-good romantic comedy with lashings of adorable Hollywood wish-fulfilment.
One of the deservedly popular Sandra’s best movies, While You Were Sleeping provides a rare story in which the woman picks up the Bill!
Sandra won a Best Actress Oscar for The Blind Side (2009) but alas surprisingly failed to win in 2014 with her rousing performance in Gravity (2013).
It’s pleasing, and very satisfying, that there are nice little support roles for esteemed, beloved star character actors Peter Boyle (1935-2006), Jack Warden (1920-2006) and Glynis Johns (89 on October 5 2014).
