The stressed and impotent burnt-out poet Thierry (Judge Reinhold) and his manipulative painter high school buddy Johnny (Nicolas Cage) vie for the lissom body of Thierry’s wife Zandalee (Erika Anderson) in director Sam Pillsbury’s shameful, unsexy, 1991 would-be erotic drama Zandalee, set in New Orleans.
Written by Mari Kornhauser, Zandalee is one of 1991’s worst films, with poor performances, a poor script and poorly paced direction.
New Orleans looks pretty though, as shot by Walt Lloyd.
Viveca Lindfors, Aaron Neville, Joe Pantoliano, Marisa Tomei and Zach Galligan are all also wasted.
There is an NC-17 version and an R rated version. The original NC-17-rated version was cut to receive an R rating in the US, rated R for strong sensuality, sexual dialogue, and strong language. The UK release is 18.
Reinhold and Cage are in also in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
